The Tamil Nadu Producers Council has reportedly received a petition from the makers of Kamal Haasan's 2015 film Uttama Villain, alleging that the actor has not fulfilled his promise of compensating for the film's losses.

Kamal Haasan, a prominent figure in Indian cinema for nearly six decades, has encountered his share of box office setbacks, including the commercial failure of Uttama Villain in 2015. The delayed release and subsequent underperformance of the film resulted in significant losses for its producers, N Lingusamy and Thirrupathi Brothers Company.

Kamal Haasan had assured the producers that he would star in a film of their choice to make amends for the losses. However, the latest development reveals that the promise remains unfulfilled, prompting Thirrupathi Brothers Company to file a petition against the actor at the Tamil Nadu Producers Council.

According to reports by IndiaGlitz Tamil, the producers of Uttama Villain have lodged a formal complaint with the Tamil Nadu Producers Council, citing Kamal Haasan's commitment to act in a film under their production as compensation for the incurred losses. Despite nine years passing since the film's release, the promise remains unkept.

The producers have urged the Producers Council to intervene and negotiate with Kamal Haasan to honor his commitment. Additionally, they have expressed concerns about pressure from lenders who provided funding for the project.

Uttama Villain, a 2015 comedy-drama directed by Ramesh Aravind, features an ensemble cast including Urvashi, K Balachander, Andrea Jeremiah, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Jayaram, and Nassar. The film marks the final on-screen appearance of veteran filmmaker K Balachander alongside Kamal Haasan.

The storyline revolves around Manoranjan, a renowned star diagnosed with brain cancer, leading to an abrupt halt in his career. Determined to leave a lasting legacy, Manoranjan embarks on making his final film under the guidance of his mentor, Margadarisi, while also reconciling with personal conflicts. Despite its commercial failure, Uttama Villain received acclaim from critics for its meta-storytelling approach.
