Veteran actor Tabassum passes away after cardiac arrest

Mumbai: Noted actor and TV show host Tabassum died on Friday evening following cardiac arrest. She was 78.

Her son Hoshang Govil reportedly said that the actor's death left the family in shock as she was in good health, reports India Today.

Govil added that she was preparing to act in a show to continue its shooting she had 10 days ago when she died.

Tabassum was getting treatment for gastro issues in a private hospital and upon admitted again, she had two cardiac arrests with two minutes, he said.

Tabassum who emerged as a noted actor in 1947 in the movie " Nargis", and went acting Mera Suhaag (1947), Manjhdhar (1947) and Bari Behen (1949). Later in Deedar (1951) breathed her last at private hospital here.

In her later years of career, Tabassum was popularly known for her long running talk show on the national broadcaster Doordarshan between 1972 and 1993 where she interviewed movie personalities.

Her last film appearance in a movie was in Swarg (1990).

Tabassum spent 10 days in hospital last year fighting Covid, and he was recently rumoured to have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease which her son denied, according to India Today.
